Adding info on JDM cars

[edit]

Do u mind if I add some info on JDM as well as European Camrys?? Would u mind me putting it as a subsection within each generation??

I don't want to make it seem like permission is required—but, I have absolutely no objection to inclusion of Euro/JDM information in the article. I encourage it, and I'm looking forward to reading about cars that I don't see every day. --Milkmandan 02:08, 2005 Apr 17 (UTC)

I asked cos the article is already very impressive, & I'm sure u've spent a lot of time on it, including the layout design. The Camry has a complicated model branchline (as most Japanese cars in the 70/80/90's do), so it would be very easy to make the article hard to read by not giving thought to the article's layout, as there are a lot of extra info.

years, and engines missed

[edit]

i was looking through the Camry section, and found that you forgot the 1992-1993 V6 motor. it was the 3.0L 4 cam 3VZ-FE. Also the third generation was from 1992-1996.

(this was on the right hand column)

Wrong Transmission Descriptions

[edit]

The A140E is a four speed (three speed + overdrive), just like the A540's and A541s

Kanye West

[edit]

Moved this in from the article, doesn't make much sense to me: "Toyota Camry is mention alot when rapper Kanye West Raps in DJ Khaled Grammy Family"

miles per gallon?

[edit]

I think this article, and indeed all articles about various makes of automobiles, should include information about miles per gallon. It could go in the little "stat" box on the right, even.

I suggest this because that is why *I* looked this article up, but was not able to find the information. Mpg is increasingly becoming a bigger and bigger concern for drivers.

1st Generation Chassis Codes Corrections

[edit]

Not sure who thinks they the authority on 1st generation Camry's but they clearly haven't done as much VIN research as I have.

I have an SV12 (DX), and it sure doesn't have a 3SGE.

I have seen SV10 thru SV16 in my 8 years of 1st gen enthusiasm. I will compile information in the near future and edit the article to reflect this. EightD-5 (talk) 03:00, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think you have confused chassis code with VIN code. What an American calls an SV12 is actually using the VIN code. However, if you look at the chassis code (looks similar to SV11L-UEMNEA) on the same vehicle then you will notice that it says SV11, not SV12. Toyota USA wanted to fit a lot of Camry variations into the VIN but the VIN format doesn't allow much in variations. So they re-imagined the first 2 digits to be different to the digits in the chassis code and used these in the VIN. Confusing as anything but it's what they did. Here's a table that shows this a bit clearer - https://automotivetechinfo.com/wp-content/uploads/1983/11/Toyota-Service-News-Bulletin-10-November-1983.pdf (see 4th page).
The article uses the chassis code rather than VIN codes because these VIN code numbers are peculiar to N.America, are not used in most other countries and Wikipedia is an international encyclopedia meant for readers both inside and outside of N.America.
Note also that there is no such thing as an SV13..16 when looking at chassis codes - they are N.American VIN artefacts only.  Stepho  talk  04:29, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

TRD trim info missing as well as engine names/info could be added

[edit]

I didn’t see any info on TRD Camry also there is a decent lack of information on the Camry 2600:1015:B237:38D7:98EC:6BE7:F621:8BFF (talk) 21:20, 25 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

TRD was mostly a US thing, so it doesn't get much coverage in the international community. However, it is mentioned once in the XV20 section - with a link for you to follow to Toyota Racing Development.
What TRD info for the Camry do you think is missing?
There is a lot of information about the Camry on this page. There is even more in the articles for specific generations - eg, Toyota Camry (XV20). What do you think is missing?  Stepho  talk  23:50, 25 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I generally agree. The TRD package is fundamentally a trim, suspension, and brake package for the North American market, while this article is a broad international overview. The TRD deserves a mention because it's been prominently marketed, but it's not a truly distinct model, so the details belong in the articles for the individual generations.
